The popular bike valet service is being spun off by its founder, Christine Acosta, so she can focus on her primary business, Pedal Power Promoters, and other bicycle safety initiatives
April 19, 2017 – Tampa, FL - For the past three years, Christine Acosta has run Tampa Bike Valet, a service for bicyclists that provides staffed, secure bike parking at Tampa Bay events. The service is free to users, and is sponsored by local businesses and event organizers who strongly believe, as she does, that providing premium bicycle services is the way of the future.
“Accommodating bikes at events eases traffic and parking congestion, improves community engagement and equity, promotes health, and boosts spending at local businesses,” she said recently. “I want Tampa Bay to be a great place to live, work, learn and play. Improving and growing bike culture is a big part of that, of being globally competitive, and retaining and attracting the most talented people. Encouraging active transportation is fun and smart. After one recent event a transportation engineer from JRB Solutions calculated the 460 bikes we’d parked saved four city blocks of parking had cyclists driven instead, or 30 blocks of on-street parking!”
Recognizing the need to focus on her primary business, Pedal Power Promoters, she has agreed to sell Tampa Bike Valet to Jonathan Weidman, of Two Wheel Valet, an innovative and thriving event and fixed bike valet business with operations in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, Georgia, where their client list includes the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and Atlanta United Soccer.
“Christine has laid the groundwork for professional bike valet in Tampa Bay. We are excited to be able to continue growing the concept and partnering with businesses who value cycling as transportation in Tampa Bay,” said Jonathan.
Christine said, “I am thrilled Jonathan will be taking over. He’s got amazing plans to help us get to where we need to be with our bike-friendliness. Every small business founder hopes to find someone as passionate about their business as they are, someone who will make it even better. Two Wheel Valet will bring their expertise and best practices learned from D.C. and Atlanta, making bike valet in Tampa even better. That’s pretty cool.”
Pedal Power Promoters collaborates with local, regional and national stakeholders to implement Bicycle Friendly Certification programs for businesses. They work closely with private and public sector businesses and individuals to elevate Tampa Bay to world-class status for bicycle commuters. Their efforts generate improvements in the areas of bicycle facilities, safety, wellness, education, sustainability and profit for private and public enterprises.
