This has been quite a season of hurricane surprises. How much longer will Mother Nature; with her tantrums and excessive destruction continue beating on us all until the end of November?
The Social Media continues to broadcast parents in their plight to find ways to explain this weather pattern, hurricanes, to their children. She continues to surprise us all, but this year she has really been mean and moody with her plans far worse than we have ever seen. I have not seen any children’s storybooks in the marketplace on hurricanes.
When my husband and I retired to Florida, we experienced many hurricanes and learned from our new friends here that children were scared and afraid. My husband, Robert an Artist, created an imaginary face for this seasonal weather pattern. It was so cute and our thoughts immediately were on a fantasy tale for a children’s storybook thus began our collaboration on our first book.
All the illustrations add to the understanding of the before and after lives of these hurricanes. The 2004 hurricanes is a good example of what we mean by many faces with its four visitors. This might be an ideal way to help educate young children.
My husband is a lifelong artist and Illustrator, I a photographer, and writer. We have combined our talents in many ways and alongside each other, but doing our book “Mother Nature’s Surprise Visit” is a first joint project. We have enjoyed doing it and hope that we in some way will help young children learn about Mother Nature such as how she got her name, her true personality and more.
