On Saturday January 14th students from Buchanan Middle School took 2nd place for the second year in a row at the Tampa Regional Future City Competition. Ryan Martin, Benjamin Hense and Tristen Wedlock from the BioEngineering Academy at the school were very excited to see how their city this year would hold up against schools from all over central Florida.
What is Future City? Future City starts with a question—how can we make the world a better place? To answer it, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue. Past topics include storm water management, urban agriculture, and green energy. This years topic focused on Public Spaces.
"I love building the model." is Ryan Martins favorite part of the competition.
"I am very proud of how the boys have competed the last two years. They are three students taking on classes of 30 and handling the pressure extremely well." says, Walter Watts their Technology teacher.
